Let’s face it– life is full of scary things. No matter what we do, our students will encounter scary things in their lives– and there are times when they will be afraid. These are the best verses about fear that I have found to help my Children’s Church students cope with fear.
Of course, there are many, many verses about fear, and about how to cope with fear for kids, but I tried my best to narrow it down so that this article does not go on forever.

You can get these verses in a printable PDF to give to you Sunday School students or print oversize to make a poster for the wall of your Bible classroom.

Verses About Fear
“For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love, and self discipline.”
2 timothy 1:7
This is one of my all time favorite verses. I repeated it to myself over and over again at the beginning of 2020, because things were so crazy. I love the idea that God not only did NOT make us timid, but gave us power.
In fact, I love it so much that I made a video lesson for my children’s church students when we were virtual (because, again, 2020). You can use it with your students too! It’s available here.
“Do not let your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.”
John 14:27
This verses is perfect if you have students who tend to be anxious. It can be hard to remain calm, but God says do not let your hearts be troubled.
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified, do not be discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Joshua 1:9
A classic verse for a classic story. I learned a VBS song with this one when I was 7, and I could still sing it to you. It’s a great reminder that God is with us wherever we go– even if we go somewhere new and scary.
Or if we are just at school. That can be scary too.

“The Lord is my light and salvation. Whom shall I fear?”
Psalm 27:!
Then there is this verse. Psalm 27:1 is almost like a taunt– I have God, so what can anyone else do to me?
“I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.”
Psalm 34:4
If you’ve been around this blog at all, you may have noticed that I am a fan of actionable steps. When our students are feeling fearful or scared, this verse tells them what to do. When you feel scared– seek the Lord. Pray. Then he will deliver us from our fears so that we don’t have to be scared anymore.

“In God I trust and am not afraid.”
psalm 56:4
After we pray that God will deliver our fears, then we can remember this verse. When we trust in God, we don’t have to be afraid.
And if you feel scared, you can repeat this over and over like a mantra. It works.
“Cast all your anxiety on him, because he cares for you.”
1 peter 5:7
My mom was the type of mom that always told us why. This verse is like that– cast your anxiety on him because he cares for you. God wants you to be free from anxiety. He does not want you to be scared.

“For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.”
Isaiah 41: 13
So good. Not only do we not have to be scared, but God is literally right there with us, holding our hand.
“Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.”
1 corinthians 16:13
This verse is great, because it equates standing in faith with being courageous. When we stand firm in our faith, and believe what the Bible says, then we can be courageous and strong.
A good reminder to students to stand firm in what the Bible says.
“There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear.”
1 John 4:18
I feel like this one needs no explanation.

There’s the top ten verses about fear for kids! I know I did not come anywhere close to getting all of them– seriously, there’s a lot of verses about fear in the Bible– but it’s a few.
